“The Beatles get a mind blowing tribute.” -Rolling Stone

Now in its 20th year, Spencer and the Walrus is a band of Portland, ME based musicians who come together through a shared love of Beatles music.

All members are active recording and touring artists who were recently featured in a Rolling Stone article highlighting Portland’s ambitious music scene. Members Spencer Albee, Zach Jones, Sean Morin, Jon Roods, Natalie Mishell Martinez, and Andrew Hodgkins vie to recreate The Beatles recordings as accurately as possible in a live show setting. They are joined onstage by a six piece horn section.

The Walrus does celebrate the music of The Beatles with as much reverence and enthusiasm as possible, while leaning into in to the power of the live performance. They do not dress up and impersonate The Beatles. This show is a joy for people aged 0 to 100.

No wigs, no accents, and just a little bit too loud.

Beatles tribute shows have been happening since the band stopped playing, but many veer on parody, with moptop costumes and failure to execute the band’s complex studio arrangements live. Every Thanksgiving weekend in the Northeast, there’s an exception: More than two dozen of New England’s top artists gather for Beatles Night, an arena-size set leaning heavily on late-period songs the Beatles never attempted in concert, with stacked harmonies and full horn and string sections.
